Guardian Site Solutions stands or falls by the quality of the people we employ and provide to our clients. That’s why we invest in the remaining and development of all our staff. This ensures that however large a team is needed for the job, our clients can be rest assured that we have not ‘topped up’ numbers with temps or casual labour.
Our team have attended a bespoke training program of confined space monitoring and fire training designed by Humberside Airport Fire and Rescue.
The course addresses the theoretical understanding of what is a confined space, the hazards associated with working in a confined space and how to monitor people entering this space. The practical element of the training is centred round real time command and control rescue scenarios. This gives valuable experience of:
- The most effective way of communicating with a work team
- How to raise the alarm
- Liaison with the rescue team
- What information is needed? The number of people involved, the work activity, any equipment inside the confined space and relevant details from the pre job risk assessment
Should you require a guardian to undertake fire watching duties, our team have received training and been assessed as competent in the acquisition and use of Fire Extinguishers by Humberside Airport Fire and Rescue.
A company was fined £10,000 plus costs of nearly £7,000 when two painters applying a solvent-based paint in a confined space onboard a barge were overcome by paint fumes. One man was able to escape and the other was found unconscious where they had been working. (HSE)
